Wolfpack Freshman Shot 67 (-5) To Open Tournament On Sunday

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. – Led by a very strong opening-round 67 (-5) from freshman Benjamin Shipp, the NC State men’s golf team completed the first day of action at the 2017 Hootie at Bulls Bay Sunday afternoon. Through one round of golf at Bulls Bay Golf Club, the Wolfpack sits tied for eighth in the tournament field with a team score of 287 (-1).


NC State is just three strokes outside of the top five and only 10 strokes behind current leader Georgia State (277, -11). South Carolina is second in the team standings with a 279 (-9).


The most impressive part of Shipp’s performance on Sunday came during the second half of his round. After beginning his round on hole 10 and sitting at even par through his first nine holes, Shipp posted five birdies and four pars on holes 1-9. He’s currently just one stroke out of a tie for first place with South Carolina’s Keenan Huskey and Mississippi’s Braden Thornberry.
