DAVIDSON, N.C. – Peyton Aldridge scored 25 points, Jon Axel Gudmundsson netted 21 and Davidson drilled 14 3-pointers as the Wildcats ran their winning streak to five straight, with an 83-73 victory over St. Bonaventure Friday in front of a sold-out Belk Arena.
Both Aldridge and Gudmundsson just missed double-doubles with 9 rebounds and 9 assists, respectively. They were joined in double figures by Kellan Grady (16) and KiShawn Pritchett (11).
In addition to shooting above 50 percent for the fourth straight contest, Davidson (10-7, 5-1 A-10) held the Bonnies to just 40.3 percent, including 10-of-34 (.294) after intermission.
After the Wildcats stretched the margin to 51-41 early in the second half, St. Bonaventure (12-6, 2-4 A-10) went on a spurt of its own to cut the deficit to 55-53, on a Jaylen Adams’ trey with 12:58 to play.
Davidson responded with a 16-4 run highlighted by four triples, two each from Gudmundsson and Pritchett, to push lead to as many as 14, 71-57.
The Wildcats, who are off to their best start in A-10 play since joining the league in 2014, made 13-of-14 free throws.
The first half box score was almost a mirror image as both teams shot 53.6 percent (15-28), made both free throws and grabbed 13 rebounds. It was Davidson’s nine 3-pointers to the Bonnies’ five that was the difference as it went to the break up, 41-37.
Matt Mobley paced St. Bonaventure with 25 points, while Adams added 18.
Davidson will travel to Dayton for a nationally-televised (CBS Sports Network) contest Tuesday at 7 p.m
