AUGUSTA, Ga. – A personal best in the hammer throw, as well as a top-15 finish at the NCAA Division I-heavy UNF Invite on Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla., has earned freshman Kelsi Sheldon Peach Belt Conference Field Athlete of the Week recognition, the league office announced.
Sheldon turned in a personal-best mark of 38.22 meters in the hammer throw on Saturday, while also logging a 14th place showing with a toss of 26.46 meters in the javelin throw. Sheldon also recorded a mark of 35.07 meters in the discus throw as well.
The Clearwater, Fla., native has already logged a quartet of top-10 finishes this season, including a runner-up showing in the discus throw at the Mount Olive-hosted Trojan Challenge on March 17. She finished third in that same event at the Braves Classic two weeks earlier. She had a pair of top-10 finishes during the indoor portion of the 2017 schedule.
The Braves will get their final tune-up for the Peach Belt Conference Championships this weekend when they head to Elon for the Phoenix Invitational. The PBC Championships will take place, April 20-22, in Montevallo, Ala.
