DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University senior Patrick Cole (Newark, N.J.) earned another reward for his breakout campaign by being named to Men’s Basketball University Division First Team All-State by the NCCSIA (North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association), announced on Tuesday, April 11.
Cole has also been named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Year, BOXTOROW Player of the Year, NABC All-District 15 First Team, and he was also an AP All-America Honorable Mention.
Cole helped lead the Eagles to a MEAC regular season and tournament championship by scoring 19.3 points per game, along with 7.0 rebounds and a MEAC leading 5.6 assists per game. He also made history at NCCU by recording the first ever triple-double at the Division-I level with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists against Jackson State on Nov. 18, and he also notched his second 30+ point game in his career by scoring 32 in a win at Northern Kentucky on Nov. 26.
Among the other players named NCCSIA First Team All-State is one of two other players with more triple doubles than Cole this season, NC State freshman guard Dennis Smith, Jr. (Fayetteville, N.C.).
