Men’s Hoops Adds JUCO Transfer O’Showen Williams

BOONE, N.C. –– Appalachian State University men’s basketball and head coach Jim Fox announced the addition of junior college transfer guard O’Showen Williams (Macon, Ga./Stratford Academy/South Georgia State College), who will join the Black and Gold for the 2017-18 season.

Williams played one season at South Georgia State College and averaged 13.6 points, 5.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game, while shooting 44.0 percent from the floor. Williams earned all-freshman team recognition and was named Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association honorable mention.

In high school, Williams scored 1,521 career points and dished out over 500 assists at Stratford Academy. While there, Williams helped his team to multiple 2-AAA regional championships and a 2013-14 GISA AAA state title.

Williams was also a standout football player in high school and topped 1,000 rushing yards in 2014 and 2015.

Williams will join fellow transfers Nick Hough (Harrisburg, N.C./Hickory Ridge/Belmont Abbey) and Hunter Seacat (Mooresville, N.C./Lake Norman/William & Mary) as the newest members of the program’s active roster looking ahead to 2017-18 and will have three eligibility years remaining.

“We are thrilled to welcome O’Showen to the Appalachian family. O’Showen is someone who will bring a basketball IQ, a desire to always get better and a toughness to our team next year. We are all anxious for him to get up here and get to work.”
