Men’s Basketball 5th In Initial NCAA Region Ranking

INDIANAPOLIS – While still firmly engrossed in the race for the 2016-17 Peach Belt Conference regular season crown, the UNC Pembroke men’s basketball team made an appearance in the initial NCAA Southeast Region Ranking which has heavy influence on the eventual 64-team NCAA playoff field.

The Braves (19-7) are one of four Peach Belt Conference teams included in the first region listing of the season. South Atlantic Conference-leading Queens (22-2) is atop the listing, while perennial region powerhouse and fellow SAC member Lincoln Memorial (21-4) occupies the second position. Conference Carolinas-leading Limestone (21-4), Augusta (19-6) and UNCP round out the top 5.

Pfeiffer (19-3) is in the No. 6 position and is followed by Wingate (17-8), Columbus State (15-8), USC Aiken (17-7) and Carson-Newman (16-9).

Only games against NCAA Division II teams are included in each team’s win-loss record.

The Braves will close out the road portion of their 2016-17 regular season schedule on Saturday (9-15, 3-14 PBC) at Flagler. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. inside Flagler Gymnasium.
