Knights Drop Wednesday’s Game to PawSox 4-0

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) — Tyler Ladendorf and Roberto Pena had two hits apiece, but the Charlotte Knights dropped game two of their three-game series to the Pawtucket Red Sox by a score of 4-0 on Wednesday from BB&T Ballpark in Uptown Charlotte.

RHP Lucas Giolito (0-2, 6.43) started for the Knights and allowed three runs on four hits over 5.2 innings and was saddled with the loss. Giolito, Chicago’s number two overall prospect according to Baseball America, struck-out eight batters on the night. The California native allowed two home runs, including a solo home run in the fifth inning to Boston Red Sox outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr., who was making a Major League Baseball rehab appearance with Pawtucket. Bradley, a former University of South Carolina standout, finished the game 1-for-3 with two walks and the home run.

Pawtucket third baseman Matt Dominguez paced the PawSox offense and helped lead the club to a win in the middle game of the three-game set. Dominguez hit a two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning and finished the game by going 2-for-4 with the home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Pawtucket’s offense backed a solid start from RHP Hector Velazquez (1-0, 2.79), who tossed five shutout innings for the win. In all, four Pawtucket pitchers combined on the shutout.

The Knights welcomed three-time American League All-Star Luis Tiant to the ballpark to meet fans and sign autographs. Tiant, a Boston Red Sox legend, also threw out the game’s ceremonial first pitch.
