Snow Hill, NC – The Fayetteville State University men’s golf team concluded play at the CIAA Northern Divisional Championship in fourth place on Tuesday, March 28th at the Cutter Creek Golf Course. The Broncos posted a first round score of 324 then improved 11 strokes for a second round score of 313. FSU had a two-day total of 637 (+61) on the Par 72, 6,849-yard course.
Virginia Union University edged Chowan University by just one stroke with a total score of 611 (+35) to grab the win in the divisional tournament. The hosting Hawks shot 305 on day one and 307 on day two for a total of 612 (+36) for second place. Livingstone College shot a two day total of 630 (+54) to place in the top three.
Sophomore Isaiah Shaw (Altamonte Springs, FL) shot a 78 in the first round then improved with a 74 in the final round to finish in seventh place in the field of 45 golfers. Sophomore Nick Pennix (Mebane, NC) had a two day score of 157 (+13) to place 11th on the leaderboard.
Sophomore Adam Capps (Salemburg, NC) and sophomore Christian Villanueva (Fayetteville, NC) both concluded the event tied for 22nd overall with a two-day total of 164 (+20). Capps and Villanueva each shot 83 on day one, followed by an improved final round score of 81.
Junior Austen Parlett (Hope Mills, NC) shot 90 on day one and 91 on the second day for a total of 181 (+37). Parlett finished 35th on the overall leaderboard.
Elizabeth City State University took fifth place with a total of 652 (+76). Virginia State University ended the event just four strokes in front of Johnson C. Smith University with a two-day total of 686 (+110). JCSU had identical first and second day scores of 345 for a total of 690. Saint Augustine’s University finished with a total of 839 (+263) as the final competitor.
